What is FatChanceBellyDance®?

Five women dressed in colorful, traditional Mexican-style costumes dance outdoors at a fall festival or celebration, with a display of carved pumpkins on a large scaffold in the background and spectators watching nearby.

FCBD®Style (formerly American Tribal Style®) was created by Carolena Nericcio in the 70’s. The style is modern, but is inspired by styles from Spain, Northern Africa, India and the Middle East.

This style is group improvisational, meaning that there is no pre-choreographed dances. Instead, you learn the “language” throughout the classes, and it is “spoken” between dancers during performances.

This may sound confusing, but once it’s broken down, you start to understand the queues that your leader is giving you in order to follow along with the dances. This style teaches the dancers how to communicate through movement, and allows FCBD dancers from anywhere in the world to be able to dance together!
